When this final drive failed, our customer lost a valuable piece of plant equipment. Our reconditioning service has given their Hitachi ZX excavator a new lease of life.
The Hitachi ZX210LC-6 is a 22-tonne tracked excavator, with the final drive gear shaft connecting the motor drive shaft and the tracks.
In this case, many of the final drive’s parts were worn and damaged, leading to poor traction between the transmission and track belt. This meant the excavator could not be driven, and rather than buying an aftermarket unit, our customer chose to repair their existing part and extend its lifespan.
After cleaning and stripping the part, our engineer carefully dismantled the Hitachi final drive to inspect the damage. We found that many of the internal parts were worn or damaged.
We replaced all damaged and worn parts in both the motor and reduction side with genuine Hitachi parts.
Mating faces of all gears and housings were reworked to remove corrosion and built-up material. This ensured the drive parts fitted together snugly and removed any excess friction.
We also replaced the bearings and seals, before lubricating and rebuilding the final drive to OEM specifications. We replaced all hydraulic fluid and tightened all connections fully.
Once rebuilt, we used our custom-built rig to test the Hitachi final drive. This rig is designed to accommodate most hydraulic products on the market so that we can carry out post-repair testing and make sure we return parts in the highest possible condition.
Testing showed that the Hitachi ZX210LC-6 final drive repair was a success, and the part had been restored to full working order.
Our client was extremely happy with the service and our rates, and their Hitachi excavator is drivable once again.
