When our customer heard a lot of noise coming from the excavator’s hydraulic pump, they knew something was wrong. CJ Plant took on the challenge to find the source of the noise and repair the damage. After dismantling, we found that the drive shaft had broken, causing all sorts of damage internally.
The HPV118 hydraulic pump is heavy-duty, with an axial piston that can generate high pressure within hydraulic systems of Hitachi pumps to drive the boom, arm and bucket systems. It was fitted as an OEM pump to a Hitachi ZX210, but a drive shaft failed after particularly heavy use.
In this case, the broken drive shaft had created debris during further operation and damaged multiple other internal parts. Multiple pistons in the rotary group needed replacing and more had to be machined and reconditioned.
When we received the HPV118 pump for repair, we dismantled it piece by piece to investigate the cause of the noise.
After diagnosis, we explained to our customer t that the initial failure was down to the drive shaft which had broken, this had then led to extensive further damage to both rotary groups, and head cover’s . Once they agreed to our quote, we began repairing the pump. All the damaged/worn parts were replaced with genuine OEM components. We also replaced all bearings, seals.
After reconditioning, we tested the hydraulic pump on our purpose-built testing rig to ensure the pump was working correctly and back to OEM standards. Prior to the pump being installed back onto the machine, we advised our customer the importance of thoroughly cleaning out the hydraulic tank/system, before replacing it with fresh oil and filters.
Our customer received a fully repaired hydraulic pump in OEM standard condition – covered by a 12-month warranty.
