Frequently Asked Questions
Road-Rail machinery is fitted with a wide range of hydraulic gear pumps, piston pumps, vane pumps and axial or radial piston motors. Choosing the right type depends on pressure, flow and durability requirements, with heavy-duty, high-performance units preferred to withstand continuous operation and demanding conditions.
Hydraulic pump and motor failures often result from contamination, component wear, overheating or insufficient repairs. Misalignment, cavitation and fluid leaks also contribute to breakdowns. The demanding conditions of rail operations, like constant vibration, heavy loads and extended use, will accelerate machinery degradation, making inspections and timely repairs essential to prevent downtime.
Clean hydraulic fluid is vital for reliable rail system operation. Contaminants like dirt, water or metal particles will reduce efficiency, increase wear and tear and cause equipment failure. Regular fluid checks, proper filtration and scheduled replacements help ensure smooth long-lasting performance.
Common warning signs include unusual noises, vibration, overheating, reduced performance or visible leaks. Systems may also exhibit pressure drops or irregular operation. Identifying these problems early allows for timely repair, prevents major failures, extending equipment life and ensuring the continued safe operation of rail hydraulic systems.
